A lane marker declares ones existence. It defines a pocket of individual particularity. To the outsider, it may read as an invitation, a boundary, a warning, or as a mysterious clue about another person or group - from the past or present. It marks the line between a public and an intimate place. It marks a threshold we may both desire and dread crossing.
These paintings are loosely constructed on the subjective and pictorial theme of marked territories. They are also painted over a metallic ground, which creates a disturbing visual experience. The landscape scene draws you in, but the metallic ground optically pushes you back out. A visual seduction and repulsion occurs.
